UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2016 has been notified by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 7 August 2016

The Civil Services 2016 Exam of UPSC is classified into two three levels – Preliminary, Mains and Interview. While the UPSC Civil Services Prelims is just a screening test, UPSC Civil Services Mains is of evaluative nature and those who will qualify in the mains level will be called in for UPSC Civil Services Interview.

Eligibility

  • Candidates, who wish to apply for UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2016, need to be a citizen of India for Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service posts
  • They must be between the age of 21 and 32 years as on August 1, 2016
  • Candidate need to have a degree of any University or equivalent qualification
  • Any candidate who has not completed the six attempts at the Civil Services Examination before the upper age limit

Exam Pattern

  • UPSC Civil Services 2016 Prelims Exam will be conducted on August 7 in various exam centres at around 71 cities of India
  • The Civil Services Preliminary Exam 2016 of UPSC will consist of two papers of objective type questions (multiple-choice questions) – General Studies (GS) and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT)
  • The total marks allotted for UPSC CSP 2016 is 400; 200 marks for each paper
  • The questions of both the papers of UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2015 will be set in bot Hindi and English medium
  • Candidates will be allotted two hours duration for attempting each of the papers of UPSC CS Preliminary Exam 2016
  • The CSAT paper (Paper II of Civil Services Prelims 2015) will be of qualifying nature with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33% of the total marks
  • There is a system of negative marking for the civil services preliminary exam, wherein 0.33 marks will be deducted from the total scored marks for every incorrect response
  • Candidates are required to choose one answer among the four given against each question and in any case, if more than one answer is marked, it’ll be regarded as wrong answer and negative marking will be applicable to the very question
  • The examination will serve screening purpose only; the marks obtained in UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2016 will not be counted for the final result, however will be the basis of eligibility for UPSC Civil Services Mains 2016
  • The exam will be conducted in offline mode only
  • It is mandatory for the candidates to appear in both the papers of UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2016 Exam in order to be considered eligible for UPSC Civil Services Mains 2016 Exam
